Fort Worth Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter

Letter from the President

The Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta is an active chapter of around 220 dues paying members of all ages. Our members come from collegiate chapters all over the country.

Our alumnae calendar provides opportunities to participate in a variety of activities:

  1. We have philanthropic projects such as our very successful holiday fundraiser, Cookies & Castles, which raises money for our local children's hospital and the Tri Delta Foundation.
  2. We celebrate Delta Delta Delta at Founders' Day with the TCU Phi Lambdas at a lovely dinner in the fall.
  3. Monthly meetings provide interesting programs and opportunities to enjoy our Tri Delta sisters.

We are privileged to support the TCU Phi Lambdas and enjoy their participation in our programming. A strong bond that is beneficial to both groups exists between the collegiate and alumnae chapters. This bond is a rewarding part of being an alumna in Ft. Worth.

If you are a Tri Delta alumna, we hope that you will join our alumnae chapter. Please contact me if I can assist you in any way.

In the bonds,
Linda Cunningham Vigness, President

Fort Worth Alumnae Events/Activities

Philanthropy

Cookies & Castles - Imagine walking into a large ballroom decorated in the holiday spirit, smelling the sweet smell of candy and fresh-baked gingerbread, listening to the excitement of children of all ages, seeing the smiles on the faces of mothers/fathers/grandmothers as they enjoy time with their family and loved ones. These are the sights and sensations every year at our major fundraising event, Cookies & Castles.

The event, held every year on the first weekend in December, includes a Friday ladies luncheon and a Saturday family event. All participants decorate a large 14", personal gingerbread house, using hundreds of candy choices, to make a holiday masterpiece that is theirs to take home.

All proceeds of this fundraiser are donated to the Hematology/Oncology Department at Cook Children's Medical Center and to the Jean Wiggin Roach Scholarship at the Delta Delta Delta Foundation. To date, the Fort Worth alumnae chapter has donated over $250,000 to the Hematology/Oncology Clinic at Cook Children's. We are recognized with a plaque that hangs in the clinic and in 2007, will be presented with an award at the Cook Children's annual donor dinner, held in the fall. We are also always one of the recognized donors to the Tri Delta Foundation as a result of our donation through Cookies & Castles.

A committee of volunteers and countless others from both the alumnae chapter and the collegiate chapter at TCU, Phi Lambda, work to plan and put on the event each year. It is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community, to make a difference at our local children's hospital and in the lives of children with cancer, to support the Tri Delta national philanthropy of Children's Cancer Charities, and to develop friendships among alums and collegians.

Recruitment

Alumnae members volunteer to write references and letters for the high school graduating seniors who are interested in going through recruitment. Our local alumnae reference chairman gathers and organizes these recs/letters and sends the completed packets all over the country to different colleges. You may get a blank copy of a reference form by looking under Resources at the bottom of this page.

Founders' Day

The TCU collegians and the Ft. Worth alumnae celebrate Founders' Day together each year with a lovely dinner in the fall. We enjoy a wonderful, elegant meal, inspiring speaker, the awarding of Diamond, Golden, and Silver Circle pins, and the beautiful candlelighting ceremony where we light individual candles as our chapter name is read during the roll call.

TCU Phi Lambda Support and Involvement

TCU Tri Delta Rush Meals - Each year, the Ft. Worth alumnae chapter provides meals and snacks to the actives at TCU during work week and recruitment (formerly known as 'rush'). The alumnae chapter budget provides for much of the food to be purchased. Alumnae volunteers pick up/deliver the food and get it setup.

TCU Tri Delta Skit Night - The TCU Tri Deltas always invite the alumnae chapter to the fun skit dress rehearsal held at the chapter room during work week. Many alumnae take their younger children to see the darling skits.

Delta Deliveries - Parents of TCU actives purchase darling gift baskets through the alumnae chapter that are delivered to the girls during finals week in the fall and the spring.

TCU Football Program Sales - A few alumnae members help organize the collegian's football program sales project that raises scholarships for deserving TCU women. The TCU Tri Deltas are the only organization at TCU selling the programs at the football games. If you see a darling young girl selling programs at a football game, she is a Tri Delta active, so please buy a program!

Social

Monthly meetings - Each month of the school year, our alumnae chapter has either a regular meeting in the TCU chapter room or the home of one of our members, or we attend one of our special events like Founders' Day or Cookies & Castles. Please see our list of programs for this year, 2007 - 2008.

Mother/Daughter Tea - In December of each year, a mother/daughter tea is held in the home of one of our members. Our alumnae bring their mothers and daughters, representing many different fraternities, to this wonderful multi-generational afternoon tea.

Volunteer Development

Officers and Committee Chairmen - Our outstanding alumnae chapter is fortunate to have many talented and creative women who volunteer to hold offices and serve on committees. We try to provide volunteer opportunities and experiences that are beneficial to both the volunteer and the alumnae chapter.
